A visit from Cllr Kemi Akinola
Last week we were really excited to meet Kemi Akinola, Deputy Leader of Wandsworth Council when she visited Nine Elms Studio.
Wandsworth Council have been out key partners in the project from the outset. Not only did they help withwith essential assistance through the concept, design, planning and build stages, but they are supporting our membership scheme. This programme is designed to support grassroots talent and local creative businesses or start-ups.
Kemi Akinola is the council's cabinet member for the voluntary sector, business engagement and culture. She met our director Rachel Wang who gave her a tour of the co-working and studio spaces.
Cllr Akinola said: "Wandsworth has a strong reputation for creative learning and jobs so it's really important that we nurture grassroots talent and entrepreneurs who are living and working here. I'm delighted that the council's Affordable Workspace Fund is helping to develop specialist workspaces and provide a fairer route into working in the creative industries. As part of the borough’s recovery from the impact of Covid, we’re supporting flexible working to help small businesses, start-ups and self-employed people succeed."
The support of Wandsworth Council and Big Issue Invest, is enabling creative entrepreneurs to grow their new businesses and for Chocolate Films’s workshops programme to deliver regular filmmaking opportunities.
